The Warnincamp Book (Mary Barber)
We would like to thank Mary Barber for allowing us to use excerpts of her book in our website, allowing us to provide factual and interesting information about the village. The content was provided from her book 'Warningcamp, The history of a Sussex Community.'

Copies of her book can be purchased online or sometimes sourced from local book shops.

Blurb from book:

"Warningcamp was once described as "the poorest served community in West Sussex", but this study of several millennia of history shows that it was once a thriving farming settlement. Frequently people pass by on their way to Burpham and miss the hidden delights of Warningcamp, many of which can be discovered in this book.
There are glimpses of flint artefacts, Domesday life, churches that have come and gone, families from the 14th Century, children at the village school, farming life, parties at the Youth Hostel in the war and community projects in the last 15 years. The change is seen from the Saxon hamlet, to farming village with school and church, and back again to the present residential hamlet.
Extensive appendices list villagers from the 16th -19th Centuries, extracted from many different sources; this will prove a great bonus to family historians. Many previously unpublished photos, together with a wonderful selection of map extracts and original sketches have been completed by Mary Barber to make this the first and most comprehensive study of a little known Sussex community."
